2022 ACTIVITIES

The Yorba Linda Veterans Memorial Association held their annual Memorial Day Ceremony at YL Veterans Park on Monday, May 30.

The very entertaining keynote speaker was US Marine Corps veteran, Sergeant Enoch "Mac" McClain.  Mayor Carlos Rodriguez offered comments on behalf of the City Council. Members of the 11th MEU were asked to read the Gold Star Roll Call.

Several members of the Yorba Linda 11th MEU Adoption Committee were also attending.

January-February

The Yorba Linda-11th MEU Adoption Committee’s primary efforts in early 2022 were spent soliciting and collecting items for the “Welcome Home” barracks bags that contain necessities for the single service members who return to empty barracks.

MUCH THANKS to the Yorba Linda Woman’s Club for again sewing and supplying the bags.

Every 11th MEU reorganizes approximately every 15 to 18 months. (Please see the “About” page for organization.)

On 2 August Colonel James Lively, the off-going 11th MEU commander, transferred the Unit’s Colors to Colonel Thomas Siverts, the incoming commander, in a formal ceremony at the 21 Area parade deck.

3 August Back-To-School Supplies Donated To The Children Of 11th MEU Command Element

The Placentia Heritage Parade and Festival has been a tradition since 1965. This was our first year participating. It was a long day from 6:30am to 4:00pm. Same time, same place next year?

Scouts from BSA Troop 1740 were there super early to help us set up, and Troop 723 helped us tear down and load our stuff. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE SCOUTS!

A small contingent of the 11th MEU had been deployed for about three months for specialized training.

A few members of the Yorba Linda 11th MEU Adoption Committee showed up early for our November business meeting to help stuff Welcome Home Christmas stockings for returning single Marines.

The committee members also packed gift bags for children in preparation for our December dependent breakfast.

On 3 December, Santa and Mrs. Claus made their annual visit to the 11th MEU area with gifts and photo ops for the children of the Command and Logistic Elements. Several members of the YL-11th MEU Adoption Committee were also present to help Santa distribute gifts to the children.

Shamrock & Run

Come help us raise some dough for the 11th MEU. Please forward this to your friends and neighbors. Heck, forward this to everyone you know. Thanks!

PS: June 21 is also our regular business meeting night. We’ll be in the party/meeting room from 6:30pm to 8pm. Come sit in.

THANK YOU to all who helped sponsor 40 junior enlisted members of the 11th MEU to attend and enjoy a night at Taste of Yorba Linda. https://tasteofyl.com/

Some members of the Yorba Linda 11th MEU Adoption Committee were on hand to welcome Colonel Siverts and his family aboard, and to wish Colonel Lively fair winds and following seas.

Come help us Raise Some Dough for the 11th MEU.

We had a good spot for our information booth.

April has been designated as the official Month of the Military Child by the DoD since 1986.

It has been reported that military children can move up to nine times during their K-12 years. This means leaving friends and friendly surroundings more frequently than other children. Many will also experience levels of anticipation and anxiety for having family members transferred or deployed into harm's way, which can weigh heavily on a young life.

In April, the Yorba Linda-11th MEU Adoption Committee takes special pride in recognizing and celebrating the sacrifices, courage, and resilience of military dependent children during the Month of the Military Child.
