Preparing to Load Barracks Bags

Assembly Line

One of Two Trucks Delivering Barracks Bags & Other Supplies

The Yorba Linda-11th MEU Adoption Committee’s primary effort in early 2022 was preparing for the much anticipated return of our MEU.

January and February were spent soliciting and collecting items for the “Welcome Home” barracks bags that contain necessities for the single service members who return to empty barracks.

These bags are filled with basic hygiene supplies, laundry detergent, and a few dry snacks and drinks to tide them over until they can make a trip to the commissary.

MUCH THANKS to the Yorba Linda Woman’s Club for again sewing and supplying the bags.

Another project for the Committee in February is to air out and sweep out the barracks, then make up the beds (bunks/racks) for the returning single service members. (Surprise!)

Special attention must be paid to be sure that the bedding has the correct hospital folds at the corners and that the top sheet and blanket are turned down to the strict regulation distance. (A habit developed in Boot Camp.)

Thanks also to the Scouts and parents of BSA Troop 1740 who volunteered to help deliver the supplies to Camp Pendleton and to help prep the barracks!

The next effort for the Committee will be to help organize and fund the decorations, food, and place settings for the big Welcome Home Banquet and celebration in March.
